Chiropractic Adjustments

Adjusting the spine is the cornerstone of chiropractic.

Along with traditional manual adjustments, we may use special adjusting techniques that provide the gentlest alignment of the spine, with no cracking or popping noise, especially to the neck or cervical spine. We also have special adjusting techniques that provide the gentlest alignment of the spine to infants, children, pregnant women and the elderly.

Intersegmental Traction

A form of traction therapy, where rollers roll up and down the spine, helping to restore normal flexibility and mobility to the spine. The rolling action pumps fluid into the discs, providing nutrition to thinned or dehydrated discs. It also relieves fixations and muscle spasms of the spine, giving more strength to the supporting structures of the spine.

This special tool allows chiropractic adjustments to hold longer. It is especially helpful for people with low back, mid back and neck pain; arthritis, degenerative disc and scoliosis.

“Thanks to Dr. Fiel, I’m back on the golf course with my buds - and without pain.”

Spinal Disc Decompression Therapy

Spinal Disc Compression is safe and painless alternative to back surgery for those 95% of patients whose conditions don’t demand surgical intervention or back surgery. It is designed to correct the underlying cause of your problem, not just relieve the symptoms.

Damaged intervertebral discs seldom heal on their own, as the discs are constantly under pressure. Spinal decompression facilitates the transfer of fluids, nutrients and oxygen back inside the disc resulting in the stabilization of herniated and degenerative discs.

Custom-Made Orthotics

Back pain relief could be only two feet away! Even if your feet don’t hurt, they may be a major factor contributing to your problems.

Your feet bear the weight of the entire body (and considerably more during some sports). Insufficient or inadequate support of the feet exposes the spine to abnormal stresses and strains that eventually develop into back pain, or pain in the hips, legs, knees, arms, shoulders, or even your neck.

Custom-made orthotics may be part of the solution to these pain problems.

A few simple tests can help determine if orthotics can help your condition. What’s good for your feet - is good for your whole body.

Other Potential Treatment Options

Depending upon your personal needs, Dr. Fiel may recommend any of the below additional therapies as part of your treatment plan.

  • We’ll apply electrical muscle stimulation therapy to:

    1. Relax a muscle spasm

    2. Prevent disuse atrophy

    3. Increase local blood circulation

    4. Re-educate muscle

    5. Stimulate calf muscles and prevent venous thrombosis

    6. Maintain or increase range of motion

  • We use the following two forms of direct current therapy.

    1. Ultrasound therapy is intended to generate deep heat within body tissues for the treatment of selected medical conditions such as relief of pain, muscle spasms, and joint contractures, but not for the treatment of malignancies.

    2. Light therapy provides topical heating for temporary increase in blood circulation, temporary relief of minor muscle and joint aches, pain and stiffness, relaxation of muscles, and treatment of muscle spasms and minor pain and stiffness associated with arthritis.

  • Soft tissue mobilization is a form of manual therapy by using hands-on techniques on your muscles, ligaments and fascia in order to break adhesions and optimize your muscle function. Adhesions are your body’s attempt to heal a soft tissue injury with a lengthy inflammation process, resulting in long strands of collagenous scar tissue. These new tissues pull against one another, forming trigger points of pain.

The goals of soft tissue mobilization include:

    • Break down or reduce adhesions

    • Improve range of motion

    • Lengthen muscles and tendons

    • Reduce swelling and edema

    • Decrease pain

    • Restore functionality

  • While receiving chiropractic care for an injury or a chronic condition, we may incorporate therapeutic exercises in your treatment plan.

These exercises are designed to restore function and flexibility, improve strength and decrease pain and your success will rely heavily on your dedication to them while at home.

We will perform functional tests to assess your condition and work with you to develop a program of therapeutic exercises designed to promote healing and improve function.

The type of exercise included in your care will depend on your stage of healing and physical limitations. For example, we may begin with range of motion exercises, then progress to resistive exercises as your functional abilities improve. With the ultimate goal of restoring movement, function and flexibility.
